Fair Employment Day

CAUT Day of ActionToday in Canada, about one third of all academic staff in post-secondary institutions are adjuncts, hired on a per course or limited-term basis. These contract positions are often poorly paid, have little or no benefits, no job security, and no academic freedom.

The Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT) opposes the casualization of academic work and advocates for the full employment and the fair treatment of all academic staff regardless of their appointment status. This October 7, CAUT and its member associations will join with a coalition of unions and activists across North America and around the world to organize a series of events during the International Labour Organization (ILO) World Day for Decent Work. These events aim to raise awareness about the overuse and exploitation of Contract Academic Staff in post-secondary institutions, and the need for decent work.

CAUT encourages its members and allies to show support and sign a pledge of solidarity available on the CAUT Fair Employment website.
